Profile plant "Yucca faxoniana"

This yucca is bold!  The big green long leaves are striking and for a cold hardy yucca it is hard to ignore.  They are not as cold hardy as most of the other yuccas I grow, but if I can grow one to a mature size I will have a real show piece.   

I have covered this yucca most of it's life, and every year the tips have died back, it wont be long before it grows to big for a cover.  Only time will tell how hardy it is.

This year I bought one from HighCountryGardens, Zone 5? I hope so.

Covered last winter and did fine.  It may be a very hardy agave.

Yucca neomexicana?

I bought this from Desert Moon Nursery in Veguita, New Mexico.

This a nice yucca, has awesome flower and is very cold hardy!

The only problem is my yucca looks and flowers different than the other Y. neomexicanas I see on the web.

Mine has thicker leaves and the flower stalks are tall and branched!

It was bought as A. neomexicana, He said it had to be either A. utahensis or A. neomexicana.  The only 2 agave he grew.

So I think it is a x between the two.  And also survived the winter that did most of my yuccas in, and it was uncovered throughout the winter.

I have had very little luck with these!  Not as hardy as some say, but I always try with smaller plants.

So I will cover until they get bigger.

Zone 5?  Not for me.

I have tried before with no luck.  This plant may do better, it came from a place that seen -5f. at least!

And yes I will try a keep it covered.

PS.  I have seen big plants in full flower in Boise Idaho! Zone 6b/7
