A garden is not complete without wildlife.

I hate to cover plants for the winter, but is easier than replacement.  For the most part I only cover the ones that are new or that need wet winter protection.

With this Yucca brevifolia I am undecided if I want to cover it or not.  It has lived without cover in the past winters, but never grew much, as you can see from the pic.

My big Y. faxoniana is now too big for winter cover.

This year most of my Y. rostratas will not be covered.

My big Yucca brevifolia (Joshua tree) has been too big for winter protection for years now.

This Y. elata and the following will be left out in the wet and cold.

And this is very special too me, this came from seed from John Weiser in Reno NV.
Eriogonum ovalifolium var williamsiae (oval leaf buckwheat) I love these little plants!

Everything changes so fast!

Took a few sunset pics sense the last post.  Now that Fall is here so are the clouds and the falling temps.  It is nice too see the beautiful colors in the morning and evening sky, but I would trade them in for warmer winters.lol

Many of the pics in this post are of travel to Boise ID from here.  They were taken through a very dirty window at high speeds (my wife was driving) so they are not very clear or good for that matter.  But they give an idea of what Southwestern Idaho looks like.

These next two pics are just seconds apart.

Left early in the morning and headed for Boise.

Fog as we left from Shoshone.
The further west we headed the less clouds we encountered.

And finally we arrived in Boise.
Boise and Tucson are very similar to me.  At least from a distance.

Tucson Arizona

And finally some pics of the garden from this very cold November day, lows in the teens.

Feeling the Fall.

Fall is here, but the weather is just about as perfect as it can get. Working out in the garden or on the job has been a real treat.  Lite frost in the morning and temps in 50's and 60's during the day, perfect!

 New Mexican Privet, Desert Olive
Forestiera neomexicana
Leaves dropped for fall.

Quaking Aspens
All but done for the season.

Here is an Agave havardiana planted this year, with frost damage.
How hardy are these?  I hope this one makes it through the winter!
(hardy zone 5?)

Here is Agave protoamericana, also plant this year. And no damage!
(not hardy here)

Some yellowing on this Y. rostrata, but has always been hardy here.

Semi-evergreen
curly leaf mountain mahogany
Cercocarpus ledifolius
These look amazing with age!

New mound for a yucca that needs transplanted next spring.

Follow up from last years post.
Making slow but steady progress on the new dry creek.

More work to be done on the J-tree mound that I started last year.

Path on the side coming along nicely.

I need more rocks!
